Interaction Design as more of an expertise than an actual job role

While I'm keeping my self occupied with 15-day EMAs to spot trends in commodity markets, I do like to keep myself up to date on the latest developments concerning interaction design.

A new, rather interesting article on the state of Interaction Design has (courtesy of Adrian Chan's twitter stream post) caught my attention:

Interaction Design does seem to be becoming (or is) more of an expertise than an actual job. These days, it seems that interaction design is being practiced more and more effectively by visual designers, industrial designers and brand marketers without explicitly requiring an interaction designer to join them.
